Here are the issues a professional website should address...
Speed
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and
website marketers recommend the average file size of a web page to be under 25kb and download in 10-15 seconds on a standard dial-up connection. Our design will make sure that, regardless of the level of graphical design, your website will adhere to
this standard, thus, be very fast. The graphics for the site will be optimized for minimum file size/highest quality. The design code will be Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) based.
Search Engine Optimization
What is the use of site if no one can find it. Currently the site is somewhat setup for search engines and indexes to find it. I would like to optimize the background code, meta tags, title section, keywords and robot scripts so that your sites search engine ranking will be maximized. We will also submit the site to all free search engines and indexes for one year, every 45 days. Here are the technical areas to address.
- An appropriate page title
- Key word Meta Tags
- Description Meta Tags
- Author Meta Tags
- Key words appropriately worked into the first paragraph of the text.
- No tiny text. Several search engines consider tiny text as an attempt to spam and will NOT index the web page.
- No invisible text. Several search engines consider invisible text as an attempt to spam and will NOT index the web page.
- All graphics will include key words in the Alt Text field. Several search engines take into consideration the Alt Text when indexing a site.
- All pages will include Comment Tags with prominent Key Words. Several search engines take into consideration the Comment Tag when indexing a site.
- All web page redirects will be done using Java Script. Several search engines consider Meta Refresh tags as an attempt to spam and will NOT index the web page.
- At least one navigational method on each page will be Text Links.
- Several search engines cannot spider navigational image map links.
- URL strings will contain relevant key words.
To help ensure that your website is indexed by the top major Free search engines we will manually submit your site every 45 days. We then submit your site to directories and free listing opportunities as mentioned on our submission page.
User Friendly
How easy it is for a visitor to navigate your site is extremely important. If they can't find what they're looking for quickly and easily they're going to visit another site. Every site we create will have the minimum following navigation features:- Every web page will have a consistent theme giving your visitors visual clues that they're still visiting your site.
- Every page will clearly state what area of the site your visitors are visiting.
- We will work closely with you to organize your product(s) and or service(s) into appropriate categories to ensure that they are placed in the correct sections of your website. We are very good at logical presentations.
Web Page Optimization
Spend some time on the internet and you start to realize that there are many poorly designed websites. It's easy to create a site with numerous graphics and animated logos. However, by doing so, you greatly add to the download time. Graphics and animated logos are important because they add character, personality and a theme to a website. But they should be used sparingly.- All graphics we add to a site are optimized to be the smallest byte size possible while still retaining their quality.
- Created using web safe colors, which are 216 primary colors that appear the same on all computer platforms.
Web Browser Considerations
The most frustrating aspect of website design is designing for the various browsers and computer operating systems. A web page may look great and work flawlessly in Netscape Navigator but the same page may look and 'act' completely different in Internet Explorer. To help guard against these discrepancies we test your site with the following web browsers and operating systems:- Netscape Navigator for Windows
- Internet Explorer for Windows
- Netscape Navigator for Macintosh
- Internet Explorer for Macintosh
- Opera/Mozilla
- AOL for Windows
- AOL for Macintosh
Updating the Website
Updating a website should be quick and efficient. Our design approach will make sure that your site is scalable and efficient in the long run with perfectly programmed code and content separated from presentation.
Security
Spam is a problem. As the rewrite is being completed scripts will be written to ‘hide’ the email addresses from robot searches.
The Programming Language
We design websites separating the presentation (look and feel) from the content (text and most pictures). Since 1994, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been hard at work developing web standards. Their standards are logical and highly adopted by many progressive web design firms. The reason is that the standards almost always benefit everyone. Their current recommendation is to separate presentation form content using CSS (presentation) and DHTML 4.01 for content. The benefits are substantial:
- In a CSS style of coding a file contains all of the presentation look for the site so one change in that file, say a background color for the site, changes the entire site immediately so the site is always consistent and easy to make drastic or subtle changes. This also would make a major rewrite of the website largely unnecessary for the foreseeable future.
- Since the content is separated from the presentation style, updating the content is as easy as writing a letter. This will save time and money for everyone involved plus make the site more dynamic, updateable, current and scalable.
- CSS styles allow for “layered” presentation making the site look deep and more like a brochure than a stagnate website.
Accessibility
Handicap accessibility is a standard that should be very important to any company. The website will be accessible to ‘readers’ for the blind or otherwise site impaired. “Alt” tags for graphics, summary description for tables and text areas, and proper presentation orders within the code are just a few of the things we will correct and make the site “viewable” to all.
